Business Opportunities For the Home Worker

Call me a homemaker. Call me a domestic engineer. At the core of it all, I’m a stay-at-home mom. Some say that stay-at-home moms have the hardest job in the world. This may or may not be true, but one thing is: the job doesn’t pay (at least in a financial sense). That’s why I decided that, once all of my kids were old enough to go to school, I would go from a homemaker to a home worker.

Once I made the decision to become a home based worker, it was time to find the right home based business opportunity. It wasn’t as though someone was standing on a street corner with a sign that said, “Money for Moms.” And I wasn’t going to go around with a sign that said, “Mom Need Money.” Instead, I booted up my computer and went online in search of the right home based business.

I was surprised by what I found in the way of business opportunities for a home worker. There seemed to be something for everyone, but I had a hard time figuring out which were legitimate and which were scams. Luckily, I found a website that had done much of the groundwork for me and provided a number of pre-screened opportunities for the home worker. With those resources, I was able to get started.

At first, I started small. I wanted to make my own hours and be there for my kids when they got home from school. So, I decided to start taking online surveys from home. I signed up with a company and began to make between five and seventy-five dollars per survey. Each survey took between five minutes and a half hour to complete, and the money would show up in my PayPal account between two and six weeks after I completed a survey.

Once I dangled my toes in the water, I wanted to add to my income, so I decided to learn how to write Google AdWords ads. Google AdWords are those little text ads that you see on the right side of search results pages and on some websites. I discovered that I had a knack for it, and started to make decent money.

Before long, it dawned on me that in order to ensure I had a steady income stream, I had to diversify my sources of revenue. So, while I continued to take surveys and write AdWords ads, I also launched my own websites so I could do affiliate marketing and sell products. I know this sounds hard – especially for the home worker who doesn’t know the first thing about building a website – but it was actually quite easy. I found that, if you hook up with the right companies, they will actually build and host your websites for you. They will even train you and give you marketing tips in order to drive traffic to your websites.

Today, I feel like I have the best of both worlds. As a home worker, I can choose my own hours and be there for my kids, but I can also earn a good income to help support my family.

Effective Ads Create Higher Rates

Search engine marketing or SEM has advanced the means of linking businesses and customers. Internet search engines rank as the third most popular activity being done online coming under Web browsing and e-mail and according to a certain study done about search engine marketing, around 63% of business to business buyers use these engines to get first hand information especially when making buying decisions. Nowadays, Google ranks as the largest search engine and because of this, Google has come up with a very effective marketing and advertising strategy called Google AdWords. The principle behind this medium lies on AdWords keywords and this can be proven by those who have already experienced the AdWords success.

Google AdWords: Creating a huge opportunity to reach prospective customers

The level of search activity nowadays is getting higher most especially for business to business and business to consumers. Generally, most people use internet to search for something and the very first thing that they do is to open their browser, enter their keywords for the searches they want to make and hit enter to show up results. There are times when internet users could not find what they are looking for and they tend to do more searches.

In the past, advertisements alone were enough but many marketers have not gained enough profit out of this because searchers focus on the very first ads they see. Google AdWords has revolutionized this pattern by combining effective ads with effective AdWords keywords. In this concept, the more effective your keywords are, the more likely your ad will come out on search results. However, this alone is not enough because there are so many marketers who may be using the same keywords as yours and this is where effective ads come into the picture.

The Main Tactics under the Search Engine Marketing Umbrella

As online marketers and businesses continue to set up higher budgets for the search advertising, the rivalry for getting the top position is also getting higher. Thus, advertisers must know and understand the main tactics to create a more effective search campaign. This is especially true to attain AdWords success. The art for this basically starts with principles on creating effective ads to create higher rates and in order to do that, one must know the tactics under the search engine marketing umbrella. These are as follows:

o Organic Search

This is the opposite of Pay-per-click. This is the process when searchers do internet searching for information without getting paid.

o Search Advertising

This is when online advertisements are placed on web pages. This is one of the basic functions of Google AdWords.

o Contextual Ads

This is when advertisements appear on websites and this also proves that the more effective the contextual ad is, the greater the rate becomes because effective ads are easily noticed by visiting searchers which in the long run will be converted to buying customers.

As always, effective ads never fail to attract customers but with how the online trend is going on in the present time, there should also be a need to mix the factors that come along with this niche. Having Google AdWords as your marketing and advertising medium does not automatically mean success; you need to know the basics such as the benefit you will get from coming up with perfect and effective AdWords keywords and other factors that may affect the performance of this medium. By doing all these, you are on your way to a great AdWords success.

AdWords For Beginners

You have decided that you want to do some PPC and send traffic to your site, and you’re nervously clicking around like a possessed person looking for a merchant that pays out a monstrous lead. After looking at the lead amount, you glance over at some bars that indicate a high EPC for that particular merchant, and it is at this point that your mind is made up, and you are going to promote some web hosting that pays out $100/sale. You convince yourself that you can push through the other weak affiliates in this space, and convert some people who need hosting to start their first site. Well, the EPC data is an amalgamation of all affiliate earnings, and you can’t tell what type of traffic they are sending to the merchants, so you may be in for quite a surprise when you start pushing a campaign and it just doesn’t convert to the numbers you saw in the merchant account area.

Before you start your campaigns, you should do some quick math with your cpc (cost per click) and the lead or commission. This is incredibly simple, but some people refuse to stop and do it. So, on the most basic level(on a per hundred click basis) let’s say that the conversion rate for the product is 1%, and your lead pays $25. What is your break even cpc here? Well, quite simply, 100 clicks at 25 cents is 25 dollars, so if that is your cpc, and you get the average conversion rate, you break even: $25 in click cost and $25 in profit(1 conversion out of 100 is a 1% conversion rate). So, if you are average, and you can get those bids right around that level you will break even. Now obviously you need to lower those bids to get some profit on a $25 lead. But, those bids may be much higher than . 25, which can be pretty disheartening.

How do you lower your bids? With more relevant ads, that’s how. You see, every group of ads that appear for a certain keyword have click through rates(how many times they are clicked on in relation to how many times they are impressed on the page). If you have a higher click through rate(CTR) than your competitor, your bid price will go down for the same ad space. A high ctr is an indication that your ads are more appealing and will hopefully lead to better conversions. Google lowers your bids as a reward for high ctrs. So, if your competition has a low ctr, they will pay more than you for the same general space. So, you see how your profit margin is now greater with all other things being equal when your cpc does down.

So how exactly do you get a good click through rate and consequently a lower cpc. Well, there are some basic concepts that can be applied to your ads to achieve this end. You obviously want your ad to emphasize anything that will get the seller’s attention. Examples of this are gifts, discounted shipping, or 2 for 1 deals. This sounds simple, but enough people neglect it to warrant a mention. If you are using the most popular PPC network, AdWords, you can customize several different unique ads to appear for a set of keywords. This allows you (with some simple analysis) to notice which ads perform the best.

When creating the ads it is also of the utmost importance to include the keywords that the searcher is entering in the body and title of your advertisements. Why exactly. Well, because when you have the exact terms that were entered into the search engine in your actual ad, Google rewards you by bolding these key words. And what do you think happens when a user is presented with the opportunity to click on a bold text ad and a plain text ad. Right, they click on the bold ad, and this means your ctr goes up and your cpc will go down for the same ad space, which will make your margins higher and make you more competitive. The aforementioned tips are necessary to maintain profitability in todays PPC landscape. If you don’t heed this advice you will be working with thinning margins. These seem minor, but they can have a grand impact when a campaign is scaled into thousands of clicks.

A major input of any PPC campaign is the keyword matching settings. If you don’t set the matching properly, your impressions could go sky high and your clicks way down, resulting in nothing but an empty AdWords balance. Remember, this is all automated, making profit or loss happens extremely quickly. If you don’t touch any of the settings AdWords will automatically set what is called a broad match. This is best explained with an example. If you have the keywords black jets, a broad match will allow your ad to appear when those keywords appear in any order. So you could be selling black jets and when someone types in black jets that is exactly what they get. But, with broad match, if someone types in jet black, your black jet ad will also appear and leave an impression on the page, but the person won’t click(or they may if they’re curious, and you just end up loosing money).

The searcher of jet black and black jet are obviously looking for two different things. And again, no click translates into a lower ctr which could mean a higher cpc. And if the searcher of jet black(a color) just happens to click on your ad for a black jet(a very expensive plane, and possibly an expensive ad), then your money just went down the drain. Broad match also allows other key words in the searcher’s query to trigger your specific ad. So, say a searcher typed in fractional ownership black jets. Your ad for only black jets could appear in this instance with a keyword broad match setting. And, if your jets aren’t fractional ownership then they will most likely not buy when they click on your ad, which results in increasing costs and no sales.

When key words and their order are specific, you want to stay away from broad match. However, broad match can be effectively used for broader keywords, where ordering doesn’t need to be laser targeted. As an example, let’s take the words blue school uniforms. Now, this search term, depending on the time of year, of course, may not get too many searches in exactly this order. But, if we allow broad match to go to work, it will allow the ad to appear when someone searches school uniforms blue, as well as blue school uniforms. In this example, unlike the black jet example, the ordering isn’t as important, and broad match could actually lead to more sales.

Moving down the list of ways keyword matching can kill a campaign, we come to phrase match. Phrase match will not show ads when the order of your words is switched, like broad match; phrase match keeps the words in the order you entered them. However, what it will do is add words to your keywords. For example, if someone searched fractional ownership black jet your ad for a black jet could appear. Not good, obviously, if the black jet you’re selling is not fractional ownership.

So how do we prevent are ads from appearing for keywords that they have nothing to do with? Well, we need to use something called Negative matched keywords. By adding a – in front of keywords that we don’t want to trigger our ads, we can make the ad more targeted. This is best illustrated with our jet example. We are selling a real, expensive, full sized, black jet. So we would lose money if our ad appeared when someone typed in black jet poster or black jet model. The person may see our ad and click away because they like jets and they want to see what the ad is all about. But, we pay for these clicks, and people looking for posters and models are most likely not going to be in the market for a real black jet. So by simply adding a – in front of model and poster, -model, -poster, we prevent our ad from appearing when these keywords appear in the search query.

While incorporating negative keywords into a campaign can be very effective, it is often easier for a first time AdWords user to just use exact match. The exact match setting will only allow your ad to appear when your exact keywords are typed in the exact order you request, with no other keywords accompanying them in any manner. So with an exact match setting for black jet, the only keywords that will cause your ad to appear are black jet in that order. This is an introduction to the basic principles of AdWords. There are several nuances that must be mastered to manage a profitable campaign.

How to be Successful With Google Adwords

in Adword Articles | Comments (0)

Tags: , , , , , , ,

I am probably not going to be the first to ever tell you this. However, I am going to repeat it anyway. Pay Per Click marketing is a great avenue for advertising pretty much any business. However, it can be expensive and that is the reason you want to ensure that you are following the advice that I am offering below. Even though I probably have no clue who you are, I certainly do not like to see anyone lose the shirt off their back trying to make a few bucks online.

First, ensure that you do your research. Research is probably the biggest factor that will play into if you succeed or not. There are several websites online that will help you with this by being able to view other competitor’s keywords. Most of these do cost money, but there are some demo’s that you can use to your advantage such as keywordspy.com. Ensure that when using these types of things you take into consideration of if those keywords do relate to your website as well. You do not just want to pull random keywords for the sake of having the exact same marketing plan as your competitor. However, this can give you a good idea as to how specific you need to be.

There are various reasons you should be trying to find the proper keywords. First of all, you want the best possible Return on Investment (ROI) possible. If you have a fishing website, but your bidding on keywords such as “Chicago upholstery” and “Denver Nuggets tickets”, you probably will never be selling lures to those visitors, assuming you ever get any visitors with such unrelated keywords.

The second reason you need proper keywords is the bidding you will be required to place on them. Take my field for example, web hosting. Web hosting is without a doubt one of the most over-crowded markets online. If my keyword is simply “web hosting”, I would be required to bid somewhere between $10.00 and $15.00 per visitor. Sure, I might be able to gain them as customers, but it isn’t a guarantee and by me selling packages for less than $5.00 it is not very cost efficient to make bids that are that high. Therefore, we need to find more specific keywords where visitors are still targeted to being interested in web hosting, but has much less competition, therefore lowering the money I need to invest to get visitors searching for that keyword / phrase.

My last tip would be to ensure that you are starting small. You might have a great keyword in your head, you might find that that keyword is not doing well in converting to sales. Google Adwords allows you to limit your daily budget. Start quite a ways under what your monthly budget would allow per day. A lot of it is trial and error as well and not every ad group you setup will be as successful as you would have hoped.

Google AdWords Grants Awards Free Advertising to Nonprofit Organizations and Charities

March 6, 2010 in Writing Adwords Articles | Comments (0)

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Does your nonprofit organization or charity have a website? Would you like to bring more visitors to your website so you can raise awareness for your cause or program?

One way to bring visitors to a website is to use the Google AdWords advertising program. Most nonprofit organizations have a limited advertising budget and in response to this Google has a grant award program called Google Grants. The Google Grant is an in-kind award of free AdWords advertising credits.

You may not be familiar with AdWords but, if you have ever done a search on Google you have seen the AdWords advertisements. The advertisements that appear above the search results and on the right-hand side of the search results page are AdWords advertisements. These are paid advertisements and this is the advertising space that Google awards to nonprofit organizations to help them increase traffic to their websites.

Google has donated over 30 million dollars worth of free advertising to nonprofit organizations throughout the world over the past several years. The grants are awarded every quarter to organizations meeting the eligibility requirements that Google has specified. Grants are awarded to organizations that have a mission to help the world in the areas of science, education, health, the environment, youth and the arts.

Google accepts online grant applications year-round. Your organization must be a nonprofit organization and provide proof of your 501(c)(3) status in order to apply. Applicants are instructed to familiarize themselves with the AdWords program before submitting their application because part of the application process involves setting up a sample advertising campaign. However, if you are awarded a grant you will be assigned to a Google Grants specialist who will help your organization set up an effective advertising campaign.

The AdWords grants are awarded on a quarterly basis and organizations receive a minimum of three months worth of free advertising. AdWords advertising involves bidding money on keywords that people use when they perform searches on Google. Then, you write a short advertisement for your charity using the keyword. When people search on Google using the keyword you have chosen, your advertisement will appear on the search results page. If this sounds complicated, it is. That is why it is extremely advantageous to have the help of the grants specialist that Google provides.

The in-kind awards have a monthly cap of $10,000 worth of free advertising credits for three months. That is $30,000 worth of free advertising for your charity or nonprofit organization. Google will also allow you to raise your spending cap to $40,000 per month if you pay 5% of the cost. In addition, awards are commonly extended beyond the three month period.

Grants are awarded to small local nonprofit organizations as well as national organizations such as the American Red Cross. Your organization should investigate this opportunity. Recipients of Google Grants have reported great success and significant increases in traffic to their websites using AdWords campaigns.

Romancing the Google Spider – The Number One Thing You Can Do

March 5, 2010 in Writing Adwords Articles | Comments (0)

Tags: , , ,

When an you see somebody advertise the statement “Get Google AdWords Clicks Free”, you might start salivating like a starving wolf hunting a wounded elk.

And like that wolf, you are likely to grab the product…whatever the Internet peddler is selling…that gives you a faint hope that “yeah, somewhere out there is a way of getting free clicks.” Maybe it’s your own greed that makes you pay the $17.77 download, only to discover that the clicks are free only AFTER you’ve jumped through some hoops. Like, for instance, first advertising through Google, building a list, and then selling product to the people on the list . By some roundabout form of logic you’ve gotten “free clicks”.

The author pulled a sleight of hand, made the sale, and hopes you won’t return it. And, if you’re like me you won’t. You’ll just keep on slogging ahead, hoping that somewhere out there you’ll discover THE SECRET for getting traffic without breaking your piggy bank.

Is it possible to get traffic without paying for it?

Before we start talking about “free Google clicks”, there are four things you need to understand about advertising with Google AdWords: what it takes to write an effective ad, who the clickers are, and how saleable the product is.

The Google AdWords Morass

You’re still dealing with Google AdWords because it’s the only real thing that brings in “instant traffic”. You are

Trying to find that targeted keyword or set of keywords.
Trying to find the ideal bid that will put your ad high enough in the queue, but won’t cost a fortune with every click.
Trying to write an effective ad. This needs to be highly compelling, literally “forcing” customers to click on the link.

Your goal is to boost your “click through rate” from a sad 1 or 2% to as high as 20 – 50%. This will come only after expensive experimentation.

Clickers Are Not Buyers

Just as not everybody who wanders into a shop selling merchandise is going to buy, clickers can be divided into four groups:

“Happy” clickers — the idly curious. These people searched on the keyword for reasons of their own. They’re not interested in buying anything.
“Freeby” clickers — looking for a free product to fill a need.
Competitors — affiliate marketers who liked your ad and clicked to see what you’re selling. They might “rip off” your ad, along with the product.
Potential customers — these have a credit card in their pocket and are willing to use it, if the sales letter they encounter is compelling enough.

So, with a 10 to 50% “click through rate” only one out of four are customers. How many of these will buy the product?

Analyze for salability

Before you start marketing by ANY method, you need to determine the “salability” of the product:

Look at the sales letter. No, I don’t mean “read it” — not yet. How does it impress you? Is it attractive? Are the color combinations, pictures, testimonials, and layout inviting or is it chaotic with clashing colors, ugly pictures, and looks like a ransom note?
Read the Sales Letter. Is it written well? Is it compelling? Does it use the standard techniques of copywriting to “draw” the customer in and “compel” her to buy the product? Would you buy this product?
How many competitors will you have? You don’t want zero, and you don’t want too many either.
How long has this product been up for sale? A product that has been up for awhile might be “tried and true” — because marketers will drop it if it doesn’t sell.
Write an ad and put it up. Let it run for 100 clicks, no more and no less. If it hasn’t sold in 100 clicks, forget it, but if you’ve sold 1 or more products, it has potential.

Now we are ready to get customers

Every time I see an advertisement for “free traffic” or “free clicks” the word “scam” comes to mind. But think about it. Except for the top two or three links on the left of the search page, which are usually paid Google advertisements, all of the rest are free to the webmaster, and this is where you want to be.

Trouble is, every keyword search results in somewhere between 1 and 200 million entries, and rarely does anyone go past page three.

On the other hand, in spite of Google’s never ending quest to enhance the quality of their searchers’ experience, the top three or four links aren’t always relevant to what the searcher is looking for. Google still has a long way to go.

So, to get customers, you’re going to have to get your site listed at least on page 3, preferably page 1 or 2. But if you’re not in the top ten you need not despair, because searchers often go past the top ten trying to find what they want. In other words you’ve still got a shot at getting their clicks.

Romancing The Google Spider

A ton of stuff has been published about Search Engine Optimization, and most of it focuses on three things:

Keyword optimization (without keyword “stuffing”)
Getting quality back links
Packing the site with “content”

Yet, even with these three optimized perfectly, your web site’s page and keyword ranking can often be disappointing. Why? Because your site has still not “romanced” the Google spider. It may not be constructed in a way that grabs the spider’s attention.

Google has built an assumption into its Algorithm that a hierarchical site provides the best “search experience”. If the site isn’t built this way, it probably won’t be ranked well.

Getting your foot in the door

To attract the spider you must correctly construct your web site first, THEN provide keyword optimization, content and relevant back links. Do it right the first time and use your Google AdWords account for testing purposes only.

Your customers are on their way.

Make Your AdWords Sizzle

in Adword Articles | Comments (0)

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

For those of you out there who have tried driving traffic to your website using AdWords and for those of you out there who plan on trying AdWords in the future, this article is for you. Google AdWords is a great way to get people coming by your site. Anyone can create an AdWords ad, but very few ads actually sizzle. Why do I care if your ads sizzle? Well to be honest with you, the better ads that you write the more of those ads that get clicked on my site. So I guess it is for selfish reasons that I am offering this advice.

I like to keep things simple and give you the information in a quick, easy, and clean format so I will just lay the AdWords optimization tips out there for you in a list and you can take it from there. Enjoy and good luck.

AdWords Optimization Tips

- Put your targeted keywords in the title. These will be bolded in your ad when a search is done on your particular key word.

- Capitalize the first letter of every word. Your Headline Should Look Like This!

- Capitalize the first letter of your website. For example http://www.ChildInsure.com. It helps your URL stand out.

- If you need more space for your URL, then drop the “www.”. For example, KansasCitySEO.com.

- State the benefits of your offer. Why would I want to click on your ad?

- Use words that will move people to action. For example, easy, fast, free, cheap, quick, etc.

- Do not waste space with the name of your website. Your website does not sell. It is your website’s benefits that sell.
